Teams That Won Back-to-Back Ranji Trophy Titles

  • Maharashtra in 1939-40 and 1940-41
  • Rajasthan in 2010-11 and 2011-12
  • Karnataka in 2013-14 and 2014-15

Mumbai remains the only team to put together a run as long as 15 straight championships.

Ranji Trophy 2020-21 Was Not Played

The 2020-21 Ranji Trophy was not held. It was the first season in the tournament’s history to be cancelled.

The disruption came during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The competition returned in 2021-22.

Madhya Pradesh won that season after beating Mumbai in the final.

First Ranji Trophy Winner

Bombay were the first Ranji Trophy champions.

They won the inaugural 1934-35 tournament, with Northern India finishing as runners-up.

Bombay successfully defended the trophy in 1935-36 by finishing ahead of Madras in the final.

That early success marked the beginning of a record that would eventually grow to 42 championships under the Bombay and Mumbai names.

Latest Ranji Trophy Winner

Jammu & Kashmir are the latest Ranji Trophy winners. They won the 2025-26 title after taking a first-innings lead against Karnataka in the final. It was their first championship in the competition.

That result also made Jammu & Kashmir the 21st champion team or historical association in the Ranji Trophy winners list.

Conclusion: Mumbai With 42 Ranji Trophy Titles Leads the Winners List

The Ranji Trophy Winners List now runs from Bombay’s inaugural title in 1934-35 to Jammu & Kashmir’s breakthrough championship in 2025-26.

Mumbai remain far ahead with 42 titles. Karnataka are second with eight, while Delhi have seven.

The last few seasons have produced champions from several different parts of India. Madhya Pradesh won their first title in 2021-22, Vidarbha took their third in 2024-25, and Jammu & Kashmir became first-time champions in 2025-26.

The next winner will be decided in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy, which begins on October 11, 2026.
